Fleet Supervisor – Mission Critical Operations
BEST Logistics Group is seeking a Fleet Supervisor to join our exciting, growing Mission Critical Operations team in Kernersville, NC. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing daily fleet operations while providing direct supervision, coaching, and support to a team of professional drivers. The Fleet Supervisor serves as a key operational leader, ensuring safe, efficient, and customer-focused transportation services across our Regional Flatbed, Heavy Haul, and Hot Shot operations.
As a trusted point of contact for drivers, customers, and internal departments, the Fleet Supervisor plays a critical role in optimizing fleet performance, maintaining regulatory compliance, improving driver retention, and supporting the successful movement of standard and oversized freight throughout the United States.
This is a day-shift position (office hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday), with evening and weekend availability required as business needs dictate.
Position Overview
Lead and supervise a team of drivers, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, professionalism, and operational excellence.
Ensure compliance with all company policies, FMCSA regulations, DOT requirements, and safety standards.
Balance customer expectations, driver needs, and business objectives to maximize service performance and fleet efficiency.
Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance management to drivers, supporting their professional development and success.
Monitor fleet performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve productivity, utilization, service levels, and profitability.
Collaborate with operations, safety, maintenance, and leadership teams to implement process improvements and enhance operational effectiveness.
Support driver retention initiatives by maintaining strong communication, promoting engagement, and addressing concerns proactively.
Oversee driver payroll accuracy, scheduling, and work-life balance considerations.
Maintain continuous communication with customers to ensure a seamless freight movement process and exceptional service experience.
Coordinate pickup and delivery schedules while optimizing fleet resources and driver assignments.
Monitor and manage load execution, equipment utilization, permit requirements, and customer service expectations.
Ensure accurate and timely completion of operational documentation, including Bills of Lading (BOLs), permits, receipts, and related records.
Respond to operational challenges and service disruptions with effective problem-solving and decision-making.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Regional Operations Manager or Director of Specialized Services.
Job requirements
Ideal Candidates Will
Have at least two (2) years of experience in heavy haul, over-dimensional freight, fleet operations, transportation supervision, or a related field.
Demonstrate proven leadership experience managing drivers or transportation personnel.
Possess a strong understanding of FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance requirements, and transportation safety practices.
Have knowledge of state permit requirements and escort regulations for over-dimensional freight.
Understand the equipment types utilized in flatbed, heavy haul, and specialized transportation operations.
Be highly skilled in communication, organization, conflict resolution, and relationship management.
Be proactive, results-oriented, and capable of making sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Have experience with McLeod TMS software (preferred).
Have brokerage or specialized transportation experience (preferred).
